SAFETY POSTER CONTEST

The theme is "Weather "

Each club may submit two posters per age group - 8-9 yrs, 10-11 yrs, 12-14 yr, and 15-18 yrs. Cloverbud members do not have a limit.

The poster size is 14" x 22", made on the horizontal of regular poster board. No foam board. Posters must meet the requirements or they will not be eligible for competition.

All posters must be turned in to the Extension Office by June 21. The poster is for public display and should be your best work.

 
HEALTH & SAFETY SKIT CONTEST RULES

Requirements:

1. Each county is eligible to have one skit entry. Teams shall consist of 4-H members who are nine years old, or in the third grade and older as of January 1 of the current year. Each team must consist of 2-5 current 4-H members.

2. Teams are to select a topic of Health or Safety that affects family living, whether it is in the home, on the farm, on the highway, or in a public place.

3. All participants should be a part of gathering the research information for the talk. Team talks/skits need to be prepared entirely by the 4-H members. Talks prepared by outside resources will not be permitted.

4. Time limit for each team is five to eight minutes. Each member in the skit must have at least one minute of speaking time. Teams going over eight minutes or under four minutes OR those not meeting the one minute speaking time requirement will be penalized 10 points. Prompts may not be used (scripts, verbal coaching, and note cards).

5. Props may be used, but ~ posters or printed materials will be permitted. Costumes will be allowed as long as all participants are fully clothed and wearing shoes. Trademarked or "brand names" of products should not be used on props, costumes, or mentioned in the skit.

6. The judge will evaluate all teams based on the following criteria: 30% Content, 30% Organization and 40% Delivery .

7. Members participating in the skit category must use a new topic and material each year.

8. The members of a team selected as a winner in the county or district contest are eligible to participate in the county , district and state level. The members of a team selected as winners in the state contest of the previous year are not eligible to participate in the contest with any team at any level in the current year .

HEALTH AND SAFETY SPEAKING CONTEST

1. The county 4-H Speaking Contest will be held with a Jr. (9-13) and Sr. (14 & up) division with winners selected in both groups. Ages are as of January I of the current year.

2. Previous Jr. winners will continue to compete as a Jr. until he or she wins on the District level. Sr. division winners may compete again with a different speech.

3. Sr. division talks will be a minimum of 4.0 minutes and a maximum of 5.5 minutes. There will be a 1 0 point deduction if over or under .

4. Jr. division speeches are limited to 2.5 to 3.5 minutes. There will be a 10 point deduction if over 3.5 minutes.

5. Winning safety speeches from previous years cannot be repeated-

6. Appropriate dress is required for all 4-H public speaking participants. The use of costumes, props, or visuals is not permitted.

7. Prompters (scripts, note cards, verbal cues) and props may not be used for senior or junior contestants. No music, singing, or dancing can be part of the speech. Contestants at the county level may use note cards if so desired.

8. Select a topic of health or safety that affects you personally, your family, your friends, or the general public.

9. The top two seniors and the top junior are eligible to participate in the District Contest.

10. The senior winners on the state level may receive a trip to the National Youth Safety Congress held in October each year .
